Miriam Margolyes wants to be the lead in a new detective series.
The 78-year-old actress opened up about her dreams as she aspires to one day star in her own crime drama, and she admitted ITV drama ‘Vera’ would be a big influence behind her fantasy role.
Appearing on ‘This Morning’ on Thursday (09.01.20), Miriam said: "I’ll tell you what I’d love to be. I want to be Brenda Blethyn, she’s got ‘Vera’ and I want a programme that’s as good as that, with as toughness as she’s got.
"I want to be an old lady detective. More ‘Vera’ than Marple, and I don’t care where they send me or what I have to do."
Whilst she waits for her ideal role, the ‘Call the Midwife’ star has been keeping herself busy by begging BBC bosses to invite her back for the ninth series of the period drama.
She quipped: "I’m coming back. I had to do awful things to a lot of people. I’m not going to say exactly what but I begged on my knees."
Meanwhile, Miriam appeared in the show’s Christmas special, which was filmed in the Outer Hebrides.
Although, the ‘Harry Potter’ star praised the beautiful scenery, she suffered a wardrobe malfunction when the horrendous weather of the Scottish islands left her soaked because headdress was dripping wet.
She added: "A wet wimple is a disadvantaged, I didn’t know how much of a disadvantage but it’s very difficult. When I go back, and I mean I will go back there, I won’t have a wimple on. The thing is awkward.
"For example, when I go to the loo – because we’re going to sit down – we have to pull up everything to make sure it doesn’t go in the bowl. It’s a whole heap to pull up, it’s quite tricky.
"You can’t hear what people are saying, it really is tricky. Never mind, it is a joy to be in the programme."
