Miranda Kerr recently moved to Malibu because her ex-husband Orlando Bloom wanted to live there.
The 33-year-old model was very happy living in New York but she and her former spouse – who she split from in 2013 – agreed California would allow their five-year-old son a "better lifestyle" and so she splashed out $2 million on an eco-conscious home near the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actor’s house.
She said: "Orlando and I were living in New York, and we loved it there.
"But we were considering what the best options were for our son. Orlando owned a place in Malibu, and he was saying that he wanted to move here.
"We thought it would be a better lifestyle for Flynn. He could be outside playing year-round, playing in the sand. We could have a garden.
"I started looking for houses because we wanted to be close as a family."
When she bought the house, one of Miranda’s "priorities" was to splash out on a clear acrylic baby grand piano.
She told the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine: "When I was a child, I spent a lot of time at my grandma’s house.
"People were coming in and out. She was always in the kitchen making something. There was always food and snacks. She would play the piano, and we would sing and dance. So those were my two priorities. I wanted to have a piano and a great kitchen, which is always the heart of the home."
Miranda received an incredibly "thoughtful" gift for the house from her fiance, Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel, when he installed a machine that draws moisture from the air and produces all the water the family needs for the whole house, from the shower to the koi pond.
She said; "This property was a dust bowl when I bought it, and now it’s so green.
"This system really just pulls water out of the sky. It was a very thoughtful present because he knows how much I love a garden."
