Miley Cyrus says her MTV VMA performance ‘changed culture’

Miley Cyrus thinks she changed the cultural landscape with her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in 2013.
The 25-year-old singer-songwriter performed a memorably provocative dance routine on stage with Robin Thicke at the annual awards bash, and she believes that her steamy performance marked a major turning point in American culture and in her own life.
Miley explained: "Not only was culture changed, but my life and career were changed forever.
"It inspired me to use my platform for something much bigger."
The ‘Wrecking Ball’ hitmaker subsequently decided to use her profile to instigate positive changes, which led to the creation of her Happy Hippie Foundation.
She told the new issue of Wonderland magazine: "If the world is going to focus on me and what I am doing, then what I am doing should be impactful and it should be great.
"It encouraged me to be more involved, which then led me to start my own organisation, which is the Happy Hippie Foundation. It’s dedicated to fighting injustice for vulnerable populations."
In fact, Miley previously insisted that money and success aren’t her motivation.
The chart-topping star argued that too many people within the entertainment business are driven to worker harder by the wrong things.
She explained: "People in this industry think, ‘I just gotta keep getting more money,’ and I’m like, ‘What are you getting more money for? You probably couldn’t even spend it all in this lifetime.’
"People get more famous, so that they can make their brand more famous, so that they can sell more s**t, so that they can make more money. It’s a never-ending cycle.
"Getting more money, having more hits, being the lead in the movie –
those things might stimulate you, but they don’t make you happy. I’ve experienced it all already, and I’m telling you firsthand, it doesn’t."
