Michelle Collins finds ‘soap actress’ tag ‘frustrating’

Michelle Collins wishes people wouldn’t label her as a "soap actress".
The former ‘EastEnders’ and ‘Coronation Street’ star – who has appeared in the two shows for a combination of 13 years – finds it "very frustrating" that people always link her to the serial drama shows.
In response to a tweet about an upcoming World Book Night event she is attending, 57-year-old Michelle – who has also appeared in ‘Daylight Robbery’, ‘Two Thousand Acres of Sky’ and an episode of ‘Doctor Who’, among other programmes – wrote: "Looking forward to this but I wish people would not label me a soap actress it’s very frustrating indeed !! (sic)"
Michelle starred as ‘EastEnders’ super-bitch Cindy Beale in two stints, from 1988 to 1990 and then 1992 to 1998, before her alter-ego died during childbirth.
The actress returned to soaps in 2011 when she took on the role of Rovers Return barmaid and then landlady Stella Price in ‘Coronation Street’, and her character is now residing in the south of France.
In February, Michelle offered words of encouragement to young actors who might become disillusioned with doing other work while chasing their dreams.
After a Twitter user admitted to doing jobs like waiting tables and bartending early in their acting career, Michelle simply replied: "I still clean !!! (sic)"
Since departing ‘Corrie’ five years ago, she has gone on to appear in single episodes of ‘Casualty’, ‘Death in Paradise’ and ‘Midsomer Murders’, as well as a couple of ‘The Dumping Ground’ eps.
