Michelle Collins: Fans think I’m jobless

Michelle Collins says fans take pity on her after leaving ‘Coronation Street’.

The 52-year-old actress – who previously starred in ‘EastEnders’ – quit her role as pub landlady Stella Price earlier this year, but she reveals that viewers assume she’s out of work and down on her luck because she’s no longer on the hit show.

The amused star laughed: "They think, ‘Oh poor thing, you’re obviously not doing anything else.’ "

Michelle left ‘Corrie’ to move back to London and spend more time with her daughter, Maia, before she begins university.

She added to HELLO! magazine: "It’s nice not having a job 24/7 so I can be with her. It’s a bit sad, I have another year and then she goes off."

Michelle has landed herself a guest role on ‘Casualty’, making her first appearance next month, and the actress admits she finds it hard to take long breaks from work – even if she’s earned a holiday.

She said: "I was going to have a rest and then, knowing me, I didn’t. In ‘Casualty’ I play Samantha, who runs an assault course and falls for paramedic Jeff (Matt Bardock).

"Some of the things they had me do were unbelievable. I thought I can’t complain because they’ll think I’m a right diva and it’s only my first day."
