Michael Georgiou kicked off The Great British Bake Off’

Michael Georgiou has been booted off ‘The Great British Bake Off’.
The politics student was kicked off the BBC One baking show after he failed to impress in bread week.
After his exit, he said: "The bake I went on is a bake that meant a lot to me so it is quite sad that I went based on that.
"I’m going to let my mum know first. She’s been the one that’s been with me from the start. I know she’s still going to be proud of me that I got this far but I wasn’t up to the standard."
Whilst Michael failed to impress Paul Hollywood with his creations during this week, Paul is keen for the student to carry on baking.
He added: "I’d like to see Michael carry on doing what he’s doing. He’s a great baker and a nice lad. I’ll keep in touch with him and we’ll go to Cyprus and have a nice beer."
Elsewhere on the show, Tom Gillford was awarded the Star Baker title.
Speaking about being named the best of the bunch, Tom said: "I was really shocked. I did not expect that at all in any way. I was looking around thinking, ‘Did they make a pun about Thor’s hammer?’"
Tom managed to impress throughout the three challenges. His chocolate bread wowed Paul, who dubbed it as "excellent", whilst Mary Berry revealed she was impressed with his clever thinking – choosing a shallower bake so it could cook quicker and within the allotted time.
For the technical challenge, the bakers were asked to produce 12 dampfnudels, a type of steamed sweet dumpling, and serve it with two sauces.
Val Stones placed first in that challenge whilst Andrew Smyth came a close second and was pipped to the post for Star Baker.
‘The Great British Bake Off’ continues next Wednesday (14.09.16), where contestants will be faced with a first on the show – batter.
