Michael Crawford to reprise role of Frank Spencer after 40 years off-screen

Michael Crawford is to reprise his role of Frank Spencer for a one-off special of ‘Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em’.

The 74-year-old actor was last seen playing the loveable buffoon in the hilarious sitcom 40 years ago but is set to return to his routes for a special episode in aid of Sport Relief on March 18.

He explained to The Sun newspaper: "I am delighted to be asked to bring Frank back for Sport Relief."

The accident-prone character will return alongside his wife Betty, played by Michele Dotrice, as they find themselves in a number of catastrophic situations before meeting top cyclist Sir Bradley Wiggins at the Olympic velodrome in London.

Michelle said: "It will be an absolute joy to be reunited again with Frank and fitting, for it is such a wonderful cause."

Sir Bradley added: "I am a huge fan of Michael so it’s an absolute honour to be asked to be involved alongside such an icon of British television… and all for a great cause."

After Michael turned his back on ‘Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em’ on Christmas Day in 1978, he went on to star in the original production of ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ and other successful productions such as ‘The Wizard Of Oz’.
