Mel C is to release a new solo album called ‘Version Of Me’ on October 21.
The ‘I Turn To You’ hitmaker has teamed up with longtime co-writers Peter Vettese and Adam Argyle and production duo Sons Of Sonix – who have worked with Ariana Grande and Tinie Tempah – for her first solo record in four years.
This time round the 42-year-old Spice Girls star – whose last solo effort was 2012’s ‘Stages’ – approached the record in a "different" way, allowing her have more freedom creatively.
She explained: "I wanted to make an album that I would listen to now. I’m not a leftfield artist, I never will be. I write pop songs, but my aim this time was to approach every aspect of them differently, to be more creative with structure and sounds. Whatever felt right, I went with."
The lead single will be ‘Anymore’ which drops on October 14.
Mel is also expected to announce a UK tour in support of the record very soon.
It comes after the ‘Viva Forever’ star said she would be taking a leap out of Victoria Beckham’s book by not taking part in a reunion with her Spice Girls bandmates Geri Horner, Mel B and Emma Bunton.
In an essay for LOVE magazine, she wrote: "Truth be told, earlier this year after several face-to-face meetings with the girls I made the difficult decision not to be part of a proposed reunion with Emma, Geri and Melanie. Victoria had already bowed out understandably with the demands of her fashion label and her rather large family.
"The hardest part for me was letting people down, the girls, the fans, civilisation?! Unfortunately something didn’t feel quite right and I had to follow my gut.
"I’d love to play huge arenas across the World, sing our brilliantly bonkers pop songs and relive our former glory. It is of course a very lucrative opportunity too. But we were a five-piece band. Didn’t we reach a peak with the Olympics? There’s a lot to be said for bowing out on a high note.
"For me the absolute pinnacle of my Spice existence was being watched by a billion people around the globe belting out ‘Spice up Your Life’ on top of a black cab at the 2012 London Olympics. Anything less than the full line-up just didn’t feel like we’d be doing justice to the band or the fans."
