Mel and Sue to star in Sky One sitcom Hitmen

Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins are set to star in new sitcom ‘Hitmen’.
The presenting duo will take on their first roles in a comedy series together as Jamie and Fran in the Sky One show next year, their first gig together since the former ‘The Great British Bake Off’ co-hosts presented a reboot of ‘The Generation Game’ in April.
Executive producer Myfanwy Moore said: "We are so excited to be working with the truly fantastic female comedy partnership that is Mel and Sue, who can brandish bullets and banter brilliantly in equal measure."
The six-part comedy sees pals Jamie and Fran stumble into roles as contract killers and get derailed by "incompetence, bickering, and inane antics".
Mel’s alter-ego Jamie has been hailed as an "affable goof … content to spend her days hanging out with her best mate", whilst Sue’s character is "super sensitive" and "starts to question whether it’s really the life she wants".
The script has been written by Joe Parham and Joe Markham with additional credits by Mel and Sue.
‘Hitmen’ joins a host of new shows coming to the channel.
Sky’s head of comedy, Jon Mountague, hopes the forthcoming series will "capture the chemistry of Mel and Sue and their playfulness in a scripted comedy world".
The channel has also ordered another instalment of Idris Elba’s popular sitcom ‘In the Long Run’, and David Walliams’ ‘The Queen and I’, which follows a royal family living on a council estate.
Samantha Bond stars as the Queen, and ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge David portrays the Prime Minister, who wants rid of the royals.
Jon has pitted ‘The Queen and I’ as an "interesting alternative" to Netflix’s ‘The Crown’, which returns to screens next year with Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies taking over from Claire Foy and Matt Smith as the queen and the Duke of Edinburgh respectfully.
He quipped: "David Walliams’ Republican Prime Minister in ‘The Queen and I’ will have a faint shadow of Jeremy Corbyn, but maybe that’s my interpretation."
