Maura Higgins refused to ‘fake’ being ‘happy’ with Curtis Pritchard

Maura Higgins ended her romance with Curtis Pritchard because she didn’t want to "fake" being "happy".
The 2019 ‘Love Island’ stars met on the ITV2 dating show, but they called time on their romance after just seven months together, and the 29-year-old Irish beauty has admitted that she decided to end their relationship because she didn’t feel they had "a future" together and they hardly got to spend time together because of their hectic schedules.
She confessed to The Sun on Sunday’s Fabulous magazine supplement: "People say this, but what’s the point.
"If I’m not happy I’m just not going to be with that person, and I can’t fake anything because my face will tell it straight away. What are you going to gain? Plus, I’m my own brand.
"I don’t need anyone, there’s no point denying it!
"I just felt like I’m 29 and I want somebody that I can see a future with.
"I’m not getting any younger.
"[Curtis] is 24 – maybe he did want that, maybe he didn’t, I don’t know, but I just felt it wasn’t going in that direction.
"The time apart as well … I want somebody I can be with most days."
Despite rumours that he was dating dancer Bethany Hall, Curtis has confirmed he’s very much single.
His rep said this week: "Curtis isn’t looking for a relationship right now – he’s focusing on his career and he’s spending time with his family."
Maura – who competed on this year’s ‘Dancing on Ice’ – announced their split on her Instagram Stories earlier this month.
She said: "Curtis and I have made the decision to separate. We enjoyed a great experience from our time in the villa and want to thank everyone for supporting our relationship. There is no easy way to get through a break up and no bad feeling on either side. We tried to make it work but it wasn’t to be, and I wish Curtis nothing but the best for the future."
The former couple hadn’t been pictured together since they hosted the National Television Awards’ backstage interviews on January 28.
