Matt Smith does ‘best acting’ naked

Matt Smith does his "best acting" when he’s naked.
The 34-year-old actor had to strip to play Prince Philip in ‘The Crown’ but insists it wasn’t "weird" as it felt right for the character, and he doesn’t mind baring all on screen.
Asked if it was weird, he said: "Why? He has a bum like everyone else, what’s weird about it? Philip is a man who embraces his physicality and it’s a fact that he would sleep naked. I probably do my best acting butt naked, because they’re my most, pardon the pun, stripped-back moments. I’ve got my arse out before, it’s nothing new."
And the actor thinks Philip would be impressed by his nude portrayal.
He joked: "I think [the nude scenes] could potentially be the only part that he would look upon favourably."
Since working on the Netflix miniseries, Matt has developed a fascination with the royal family and is a bit embarrassed he rarely ever thought of them before.
He said: "I wasn’t really anything before [the show], I didn’t have much of an opinion one way or the other. I wasn’t anti-monarchist at all, but I guess I never really saw them as real people in a way. I’ve lived in London for years, and been past Buckingham Palace without realising and have never given them a thought.
"And now I’m fascinated by their history and the history of Britain, which I’m rather ashamed to admit I wasn’t too up on."
Though he enjoyed working on the show, Matt admits he found it daunting.
He told heat magazine: "The whole lot [was scary]. Worrying I wasn’t up to the job of playing a man we think we all know, in a way that is largely different from his public persona today, and then discovering he is really the antithesis of everything he’s presumed to be. And to try and tell a very human story in these extreme surroundings. That was pretty much down to the writers and I knew I was in more than capable hands. But yeah obviously there was trepidation but I enjoy that."
