Massive Attack to headline London’s first ever 100 per cent battery powered day festival

Massive Attack are set to headline London’s “first ever 100 per cent battery powered” day festival.

The Bristol trip hop duo – comprising Robert ‘3D’ Del Naja and Grant ‘Daddy G’ Marshall – will top the bill at the all-new LIDO Festival at Victoria Park in East London on June 6.

And as part of their ACT 1.5 initiative to “rapidly decarbonise live music events”, and in partnership with clean energy provider Ecotricity, they will set the gold standard by going completely battery powered at LIDO.

Robert said: “To present London’s first ever 100 per cent battery powered festival day with a dynamic range of artists is an optimum outcome for us. History shows it’s often the combination of art and science that overcomes the greatest challenges we face, so it’s good to see LIDO take learnings from our ACT1.5 event last year and apply those technologies to where they see emissions coming from. Clean productions beginning this journey to normalisation is good news for everyone, but especially for music fans that come to festivals and the local communities that live around them.”

Special guests will include Air, Yasiin Bey and The Alchemist as FORENSICS and Tirzah, with more names due to be added.

It will also mark the pair’s first London festival show in almost a decade and feature their acclaimed production designed in collaboration with 3D, United Visual Artists and documentarist Adam Curtis.

Jim King, CEO of European Festivals, AEG Presents, commented: “Big changes require both courage and determination, and I cannot speak highly enough of Massive Attack and their team for embracing the challenge of launching this important initiative. AEG was fortunate to collaborate with Massive Attack on the ACT 1.5 event in Bristol last summer, which set the standard and inspired our team to continue the work they have started at LIDO.

“Massive Attack has demonstrated that there is a better way to operate for the future of both our planet and our industry.

LIDO represents the next step towards a broader adoption of industry-leading sustainability principles across AEG European Festivals, all while continuing to bring the world’s biggest artists and the best production to deliver incredible experiences for fans at our festivals.”

The sustainable LIDO show follows Massive Attack playing the UK’s largest low-carbon concert at Bristol’s Clifton Downs last summer, while they also put on Act 1.5 climate action accelerator gigs in Liverpool.

Massive Attack will join previously announced headliners Jamie xx (June 7), OUTBREAK Fest (June 13), Charli XCX’s party girl festival (June 14) and London Grammar (June 15) for the inaugural LIDO.

Tickets for the Massive Attack date go on general sale on Friday (21.02.25) via lidofestival.co.uk.
