Martin Clunes could star in Doc Martin with Carl Weathers

Martin Clunes could come face-to-face with action legend Carl Weathers in ‘Doc Martin’ as the ‘Rocky’ star wants a guest role in the show.
The 69-year-old actor – who appeared opposite Sylvester Stallone as heavyweight champion boxer Apollo Creed in four ‘Rocky’ films – is surprisingly a fan of the quaint medical drama and since his fellow 80s action peer Sigourney Weaver landed a part in it he is making it his mission to land a cameo before ITV call time on the programme in 2018.
He said: "That show ‘Doc Martin’ is a wonderful show, I love it. I really like that show, I can’t believe Sigourney Weaver was in it. He (Martin Clunes) is an interesting actor and the character is so quirky and wonderful. And the setting in the country in that small town is wonderful. If Sigourney Weaver can be in ‘Doc Martin’ then why not Carl Weathers?"
Although Weathers – who also starred with Arnold Schwarzenegger in ‘Predator’ – wants to be in ‘Doc Martin’ he doesn’t think he could hack it in one of the many British period dramas on screen, like ‘Downton Abbey’.
The ‘Chicago Justice’ star told BANG Showbiz: "As big a fan as I am of ‘Downton Abbey’ that doesn’t seem to be my wheel house really, that upstairs downstairs thing is not for me. There have been so many great British comedies that have gone on for years, but sitcoms are not really my thing. Comedy, for me, is me playing off a guy who is really funny."
