Mark Wright signs up for Strictly

Mark Wright has signed up for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.

The former ‘The Only Way is Essex’ star has reportedly been snapped up by BBC bosses to appear on the new series of the celebrity dancing competition, but his glamorous fiancée Michelle Keegan has declined an offer to join him.

Producers had hoped to have both Mark and the former ‘Coronation Street’ actress compete but Michelle, 27, has opted to focus on her acting career.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Having a couple going head-to-head would have made great TV, but we are delighted to have Mark.

"Bosses are confident he can win over their audience given his success coming second on ‘I’m a Celebrity’."

Mark will be in good company on the new series as producers are also eyeing The Saturdays singer Frankie Sandford, tennis pro Andy Murray’s mum Judy, ‘Match of the Day’ presenter Alan Hansen and rugby hunk Thom Evans.

One star who won’t be trying his hand at salsa, however, is BBC Radio 1 DJ Greg James.

The 28-year-old presenter confirmed he’s been approached for the new series but has turned it down to focus on his career.

He said: "I was asked to do it but I decided that I didn’t want to this year.

"Even though it’s a brilliant show, I decided it was best not to. I wasn’t quite ready for it yet, I wasn’t quite ready for the sequins.

"I said yes as I thought it would be hilarious and great fun. But I just woke up one morning and it didn’t feel right."
