Mariah Carey asked for a moment of silence to honour Prince at her concert in Paris last night (21.04.16).
The ‘Hero’ hitmaker appealed to her audience in France to think about the way their lives were "touched" by the music of the late singer, who had been found dead at his Paisley Park estate earlier that day.
She told the crowd at the AccorHotels Arena: "He was a friend to me too and he talked me through some times I really, really needed somebody…he was an incredible person if you didn’t ever get to meet him and I’m sure his music touched every single person in here. So, let’s have a moment of silence for Prince if we could please."
The 46-year-old singer also dedicated her song ‘One Sweet Day’ – which features the line "I know you’re shining down on me from heaven" – to the ‘Purple Rain’ singer and fought back tears as she performed the track.
Introducing the song, she said: "So it’s a very sad day but we remember the life of somebody who will always be treasured."
And speaking after the show, Mariah admitted she will "never get over" her friend’s death.
She said: "It’s such a loss that he’s gone. I’ll never get over it."
The ‘Fantasy’ hitmaker explained she and Prince had got to know each other "later in life" and even collaborated on a song, though it never came to fruition.
She added to ‘Entertainment Tonight’: "He helped me through so many moments where I needed somebody to guide me through.
"[He was] just a true genius… There will never be anybody else like him."
