Luke Bracey to star with Gerard Butler in Point Break

Luke Bracey will star opposite Gerard Butler in a remake of ‘Point Break’.

The 24-year-old actor will take on the role of FBI agent Johnny Utah while the 44-year-old star has been cast as Bodhi – roles which were played by Keanu Reeves and the late Patrick Swayze respectively, in the original 1991 action film – according to TheWrap.com.

The original tale tells the story of an FBI agent who forms an unlikely friendship with a leader of a surf-gang, after being tasked with investigating a string of robberies.

In a new twist, ‘Point Break’ – which references the surfing term where a wave breaks as it hits a point of land and splashes from the coastline – will be updated from a surfer-scene setting to the world of extreme sports.

The film will be helmed by ‘Invincible’ director Ericson Core with Kurt Wimmer – who penned ‘Salt’ and ‘Total Recall’ – on board to write the script.

Bracey – who was catapulted to the spotlight on soap ‘Home and Away’ – made his film debut in 2011’s ‘Monte Carlo’ alongside Selena Gomez and Leighton Meester, and is set to hit the big screen in ‘November Man’ later this year.
