Love Island’s Dr Alex George feared for post-Love Island career

Dr. Alex George was worried being on ‘Love Island’ might damage his medical career.
The doctor appeared on the ITV2 dating show in the summer of 2018, but he had reservations about taking part in the programme because he worried his actions on the series may go on to affect his NHS role.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alex said: "So, I was worried when I came off the show.
"Have I done something? I’m not stupid, I’m sure there is a lot of doctors, medics and nurses who think, ‘What an idiot, why’s he done that? He’s made a fool of himself.’
"Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, fair enough, you can think what you want. My counter argument would be, ‘You only live once in life.’ Do you really want to live a life spent trying to keep everyone happy? I certainly don’t.
"What matters to me is knowing I’m doing the right thing. For that reason, I was worried, what if I’ve damaged my career? What if I can’t work as a doctor? But actually, I don’t think I’ve done anything that should stop me doing that."
As well as his work in the NHS, Alex has been juggling other commitments – including his ‘Waiting Room’ podcast – with his personal life, but admitted it’s all about finding a balance.
He added: "I don’t believe it has damaged my career … being a doctor doesn’t mean you can’t have fun or be seen to have relationships."
Dr. Alex reiterated that returning to work was always part of his plan before going into the villa, even if he’s still not quite sure how he’s going to continue to fit everything in.
He said: "Coming out of Love Island I was 100 per cent sure that I wanted to go back to work.
"What I didn’t know – and in some ways I still don’t know the answer of – is how I’m going to balance that, and what is my career going to look like."
