‘Love Island’ has been commissioned for another series.
The third instalment of the reality TV show has only just wrapped up with Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies being crowned the winners in last night’s (24.07.17) show, but bosses are so impressed with how well it’s been received by fans this time around that they’ve already decided to bring it back next year for another batch of episodes in the Spanish sun.
Head of Digital Channels & Acquisitions Paul Mortimer told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "At ITV2, we couldn’t be more thrilled with how ‘Love Island’ fever has gripped the nation. Now established as the perfect series to start the summer, we’re delighted to be bringing the show back for our young adult audience in 2018."
And ITV Studios’ Creative Director for Entertainment, Richard Cowles, has admitted bosses never expected the romantic show to become "the talk of the summer."
He said: "We are delighted that viewers have embraced ‘Love Island’ so wholeheartedly; it has become the most talked about show of the summer. We are thrilled that we will be back with a new series next year."
Fans were left overjoyed last night when the 21-year-old hairdresser and his 20-year-old girlfriend beat off competition from three other couples in the live final to be crowned the winners of a whopping £50,000.
The pair – who were stunned into silence when their names were read out – faced the final two alongside nation’s favourite Camilla Thurlow and her partner Jamie Jewitt, whom she dubbed as "too good to be true" just moments before finding herself falling short of the winning spot.
Earlier in the show, Blazin’ Squad’s Marcel Somerville and his partner Gabby Allen found themselves in fourth place, shortly behind Chris Hughes and Olivia Attwood who were booted off in third.
But just winning the public vote wasn’t all Kem and Amber had to do, as after being told they had won, they were faced with one more task.
Host Caroline Flack had them each pick an envelope, one which contained the £50,000 prize fund, and one which contained nothing. Whoever picked the envelope with the whopping sum inside was able to do what they wanted with the money, and could either keep it for themselves or share it with their partner.
After having the grace to let Amber pick her envelope first, it was Kem who managed to bag the cash, and after an audience member told him to share the money with his pal Chris, the hunk decided to honour his girlfriend by splitting the funds with her.
He said: "Of course I’m going to share it".
