Love Island could ditch Majorca due to coronavirus

‘Love Island’ could dump Majorca and be filmed in a new location.

The ITV2 dating show – which is presented by Laura Whitmore – has been shot in the Balearic Island for the past five summer series, but bosses have had to halt this year’s show as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, and they are considering a new location for the 2021 summer series.

Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, ITV boss Kevin Lygo said: "If we couldn’t do it in Majorca, well, maybe we’ll have to do like we’ve done with ‘I’m A Celebrity’: find a new place to do it or something, because then it would have been off a long time, and that would be a shame. We need it, and we are assuming it will return."

This comes after ITV’s ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ has moved location from Australia to North Wales for this year’s series.

It was announced earlier this year that the 2020 ‘Love Island’ summer series would be cancelled due to Covid-19, and it means ITV bosses have another year to prepare for a new season.

And Kevin is already planning ahead, having thought about isolating contestants before they enter the villa.

He added: "It’s a long way away, and we hope we’ll be back. They are making it [‘Love Island’] you know, they’re shooting it now in America, they do it in Las Vegas, and there are ways, you know, you isolate people beforehand and all the rest of it.

"At this stage, it’s a long way away, it’s eight, nine months away, and we will proceed on the basis that we’re going to do it."

In January and February this year, the first-ever winter series of ‘Love Island’ was filmed in South Africa.
