Louis Tomlinson wants his son to have a "private and protected childhood".
The 24-year-old singer – who has filed for 50/50 physical and legal custody over his five-month-old child Freddie Reign who he had with his ex-girlfriend Briana Jungwirth – has revealed he wants strict action to be taken to protect his baby, and himself, from "intolerable" paparazzi since the court case has begun.
According to a statement obtained by PEOPLE, a spokesperson for the One Direction band member said: "[Louis wants] to have a normal, private and protected childhood.
"The levels of paparazzi attention on Freddie … are intolerable and completely unjustifiable."
The musician- who reached a temporary custody agreement in February with Briana, which allowed him to see Freddie for several hours at a time with no overnight visits – has been dissatisfied by the lack of time he spends with his brood, which he believes has been impinged on by the attention he has received since the case opened, according to the representative.
However, Louis hopes the media will understand his request at this difficult time.
The representative explained: "Louis appreciates, respects and values his relationship with the media and we hope he and his son are afforded the same respect on this matter."
Meanwhile, there has been growing speculation the custody battle was allegedly sparked by his ex-girlfriend’s jealousy over Louis new girlfriend Danielle Campbell, who he was rumoured to have been dating since December last year – whilst Briana was pregnant with their child.
Speaking previously a source close to the mother of one – who gave birth to her child in January this year – said: "Before Briana got pregnant, she was bragging to friends about how serious she was with Louis. She thought it was going to be a real relationship.
"When Louis started dating Danielle, Briana was upset and that’s when the drama started.
"Briana really tried to make the relationship work, and she became jealous when he moved on.
"When she was pregnant he was very supportive and paying for all her medical needs. He bought her a house, but she wanted something bigger."
