Louis Theroux can’t bake

Louis Theroux has admitted he can’t bake ahead of his upcoming appearance on ‘The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer’.
The 49-year-old documentary maker will be cooking up a storm to beat Jenny Eclair, Russell Howard and Ovie Soko for a chance at being crowned Star Baker in the charity edition of the Channel 4 cooking show on March 10, but he’s confessed he doesn’t have "much experience" in the kitchen.
He told the Daily Express newspaper: "I can follow a recipe but I don’t bake very often and I don’t have much experience.
"I’ve done a few little things – brownies, banana bread, flapjacks, one or two other things but basically that’s it.
"I only vaguely know how much I don’t know.
"I’ve made cupcakes but I don’t think I’ve ever made a full-size cake."
Instead, Louis relies on others to bring homemade goods to help celebrate birthdays, including Tom Cruise, who sent cupcakes to his grandmother on her 100th birthday after he worked with Louis’ cousin Justin Theroux.
He explained: "I don’t think he makes the cupcakes, I think he’s got a person who makes beautiful cupcakes … But I have to admit, he didn’t send me any cupcakes, he sent them to my granny, and that was only because my cousin Justin, who’s an actor, wrote ‘Tropic Thunder’, which Tom Cruise was in.
"So I think, after that, they became friendly and then Justin mentioned to Tom that it was our granny’s 100th birthday. And Tom sent her cakes when she turned 100."
What’s more, the ‘My Scientology Movie’ filmmaker wonders if there is a link between cupcakes and Scientology – the cult religion which ‘Mission Impossible’ star Tom is a high-profile member of.
He continued: "But I was wondering whether there’s a link with Scientology? Whether you get to some level where you get a certain power over cupcakes?
"But I’ve read quite a lot about Dianetics and Scientology, and I don’t remember anything about cupcakes."
‘The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer’ airs from 8pm on Channel 4 on March 10.
