Lorraine Stanley wants to win a comedy award to prove to her partner that she is funny.
The ‘EastEnders’ star – who plays Karen Taylor in the BBC One soap – hopes she takes home the Funniest Female gong at this year’s Inside Soap awards so she can use it to insist on her comedy talents to her partner Mark Perez.
She said: "It would be better than winning Best Actress for me, because that’s what I’m about. I love to make people laugh, so if I win this award, it means I’m actually funny! And when my fella goes to me, ‘That’s not funny, Lou, you’re not funny at all’, I can say, ‘Actually I am, because the Inside Soap readers say I am!’"
And the 43-year-old actress says it has been a "real highlight" having a comedic character in the soap.
She added to Inside Soap magazine: "I never used to get cast in comedy roles, so to be able to be funny on screen has been a real highlight for me."
Lorraine had previously opened up about her "difficult career".
She shared: "I’ve kind of done everything, but only one episode, so I named myself One-Ep Lou, and it’s nice to have a bit of stability as an actor. It’s nice to work every day. I’ve got a three-year-old daughter so it’s nice for her, and to not have to struggle, thinking, ‘When’s the next job?’, and do catering in-between. It’s nice to be working, it’s more difficult than actors think. You appreciate it so much more. Now I appreciate what I’ve got, as opposed to it just being on a plate. I’ve struggled all the way through it, it’s a difficult career."
