Lorraine Kelly recalls presenting breakfast show ‘merry’ after not going to bed

Lorraine Kelly has admitted she once presented her breakfast show while "merry" after drinking with John Hannah since 12pm the day before, and never making it to bed.
The 59-year-old TV presenter celebrated 35 years in broadcasting today (30.09.19) with a special episode of her ‘Lorraine’ show, and recalled the moment she sunk some drinks during the afternoon which culminated in her not going to bed before appearing in the studio at 4.30am the next day to do her programme.
Piers Morgan stood in for Lorraine on today’s show as she turned into the guest, and he asked her if she had once been "drunk as a skunk" on air.
She said: "I wasn’t drunk as a skunk, I was merry, it was with John Hannah to celebrate the fact he’d got a part in ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’.
"We went for lunch. Probably about 12pm [we started]. I needed to be in the studio for 4.30am [the next day]. I never went to bed.
"You know how sometimes you can drink yourself nearly sober … any normal person would have phoned up and said, ‘I’ve had terrible food poisoning.’ I’ve got this thing, I’ve got to go to work. Nobody noticed."
John appeared on the show via video link, and congratulated Lorraine for "getting away with it".
He said: "Congratulations for getting away with it for 30 odd years … let’s just keep bluffing, eh?"
During another segment of the special show, Lorraine was asked who she hasn’t enjoyed interviewing over the years, and she blasted "horrible" Kevin Spacey, and "weird" Bruce Willis.
She said: "Kevin Spacey, he was horrible. Just very arrogant. I didn’t like him at all.
"Harrison Ford, I don’t think he particularly liked the movie he was promoting, and he just wasn’t really happy. I think that’s what it was and he was fed up.
"Bruce Willis was just weird. The Two Ronnies, they used to do this sketch, they would answer the question beforehand so it was disjointed, it was a bit like that.
"You’d ask him a question and he’d give you an answer that was nothing to do with what you’d just said. So that was weird. But by and large people are actually OK."
Later in the show, Lorraine’s mother and father appeared via video link.
Her mum said: "We think the world of her, we don’t say it as much as we should. We’re not ‘lovey-dovey’ … She knows we love her. We’re very proud of her."
The TV presenter couldn’t believe her mum and dad had recorded a message for her, and just before the credits started rolling she praised her ‘Lorraine’ team for all their hard work.
She added: "You are only as good as your team and my team are the best team ever.
"Thank you to them and thank you to all of you who have been watching for 35 years, which is quite remarkable."
