Lisa Riley: I feel safer on Emmerdale than in my own home

Lisa Riley feels safer on the ‘Emmerdale’ set than she does in her own home.

The 43-year-old actress – who plays Mandy Dingle – is amazed with the effort the ITV production team have put in to making the set safe for the cast to resume filming.

Appearing on ‘This Morning’, Lisa said: "It was eerily quiet. The whole of the building and the volume of people that’s normally there were just not there. However, safety-wise, have they got on the extra mile. I feel safer at work than I do in my own home or at the supermarket.

"The production team have gone that extra mile. Our head of production, he must of been working 24 hours a day coming up with this system of how to keep it so safe."

The ‘Emmerdale’ cast and crew must remain two metres apart at all times to ensure they adhere to the government’s guidelines to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Speaking about the new safety measures, Lisa explained: "All the floor is marked out where the director can go, where the actors can go.

"We have a lady with a bamboo stick, which is two metres [long]. The camera boys, they’ve got the plastic in front of them so no germs can cross.

"It’s incredible, I just can’t believe how safe we are."

Lisa also revealed she’s been able to have a bigger input in the show since the ITV soap began filming the lockdown episodes.

She said: "With the lockdown episodes, we were so lucky. We got to have conference calls with the director and our producer. We were allowed to give our input, and switch and change a few things, and with the director it was like going back to my drama school days.

"Whereas normally we don’t get that. We get our scripts in a batch of 12 or 15, we learn them, and we shoot. Now everything’s a lot slower, the detail is there."
