Lisa George has led tributes to Juliette Kaplan after she died aged 80.
The ‘Coronation Street’ actress admitted it was an "absolute pleasure" working with the star – who is best known for her role as ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ character Pearl Sibshaw, but also appeared as Agnes Tinker in ‘Corrie’ – after she lost her battle with cancer.
Lisa – who plays Beth Tinker, the granddaughter of Agnes – wrote on Twitter: "Heartbreaking news tonight, R.I.P Juliette Kaplan it was an absolute pleasure to work with you @itvcorrie! #Corrie #Agnes (sic)"
Juliette portrayed Agnes for eight episodes from January 2015 to February 2015, first appearing as the character for her daughter Beth’s marriage to Kirk Sutherland (Andrew Whyment).
She returned to the cobbles weeks later to see Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn) after she was involved in an horrific mini bus crash and was faced with the prospect of not being able to walk again.
Agnes instructed Beth and Kirk to start pulling their weight around the house as a result of Sinead’s injuries.
As well as starring in BBC sitcom ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ between 1985 and 2010 and on the cobbles, Juliette also appeared in a number of other soaps.
She featured as character Beverley in ‘Doctors’ in 2005, and also starred in now-defunct soap ‘Brookside’.
Juliette’s agent Barry Langford confirmed her passing last night (10.10.19).
He wrote: "Juliette Kaplan, ‘Our Pearl’, has finally succumbed to the cancer she has bravely battled for so long.
"Thank you everyone who sent their love and support to this fearless and supremely gifted actress. As she said, ‘Ta-ta and it’s been fun.’"
