Lily Allen didn’t see her lesbian sex sessions as "cheating" on her then-husband Sam Cooper because the prostitutes were women.
The 33-year-old singer – who married Sam in 2011, and has daughters, six-year-old Ethel and five-year-old Marnie, with him – revealed in her new memoir ‘My Thoughts Exactly’ that she paid for sex with lady escorts while she was touring her 2014 album ‘Sheezus’ because she felt "lost and lonely."
However, although some people were baffled by the revelation, the ‘Smile’ hitmaker didn’t think there was anything wrong with it because they were all girls.
Speaking on ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’, she said: "I was in hotel rooms and was feeling quite lonely and had been drinking a lot. Usually drugs and alcohol seem to sustain something in me and it didn’t feel like anything was working any more.
"I’d just been reading a book about addiction and shame and it introduced me to the idea of sex addiction, so I thought, ‘Why not give this a go?’
"It was a low point and this part of the book I’m really not glamorising it in any way, shape or form… It is sad. It is really sad."
Jonathan asked her if she made the decision to pay for sex because she was looking for "companionship, sexual gratification or just not to be alone".
To which she replied: "A bit of all of the above. And curiosity. And because it was a woman I felt like it wasn’t cheating. I was bonkers."
Jonathan asked: "So you were drinking and using substances at that time?"
She explained: "Probably, I can’t even remember, I just remember the cash running out and her being like ‘Time is up’ and me being like: ‘Okay I’m going to the cash point!’ I had to go to about four different machines."
The ‘Not Fair’ hitmaker announced in 2016 that she had filed for divorce from Sam after a year of speculation, and they officially finalised things this year.
‘The Jonathan Ross Show’ airs on Saturday (22.09.18) at 9.50pm on ITV.
