Leslie Grantham remembered by EastEnders boss and former co-stars

Leslie Grantham has been remembered by friends and former co-stars following the sad news he passed away on Friday (15.06.18) aged 71.
The ‘EastEnders’ actor is perhaps best known for his time on the soap as ‘Dirty’ Den Watts – from 1985 to 1989, and then again from 2003 to 2005 – and the show’s current boss has paid tribute to the late star.
In a statement, John Yorke said: "Everyone at ‘EastEnders’ is deeply saddened to hear that Leslie has passed away.
"We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to his family and friends at this extremely difficult time."
He was joined in remembering Grantham by the actor’s former co-star – and on-screen wife – Tracy Ann Oberman.
She tweeted: "Really sorry to hear about Leslie Grantham. A very very good actor and one who created an iconic character with Dirty Den."
Blue singer Antony Costa also spoke out about the sad news, having appeared on stage with the actor during pantomime performances.
Taking to Twitter, he wrote: "Just heard the news my friend and ex panto colleague #LeslieGrantham has passed ..
"RIP big man …loved working with ya in panto…you made me laugh and I learnt a lot from you too..absolutely gutted… you was West Ham ..I am spurs but that didn’t matter .x (sic)"
News of Leslie’s passing comes a few days after it was reported he was fighting for his life with a mystery illness.
Confirming the news, his representative said: "We formally announce the loss of Leslie Grantham, who passed away at 10:20 am on the morning of Friday 15th June 2018. His ex-wife and sons have asked for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time, and for there to be no approaches to them for information or comment.
"They will not be making any statements to the media. They also ask that no photographs be taken of them in their grief. There will be a private funeral which will be attended by close family and friends only."
