Lenny Kravitz to honour Prince at Roll Hall of Fame induction

Lenny Kravitz is to perform a tribute to Prince at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
The ‘Are You Gonna Go My Way’ hitmaker will take to the stage at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on April 7 to honour the late music legend – who passed away on April 21, 2016, after an accidental Fentanyl overdose – and will be joined at the bash with Alicia Keys, Pharrell Williams, Mary Chapin Carpenter and the Indigo Girls, who are also set to perform on the night.
It comes hot off the heels of the news that Snoop Dogg is to induct Tupac Shakur into the Hall of Fame.
The American rap star – who was killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in September 1996, aged 25 – is widely recognised as one of the most important figures in the history of rap music and his good friend Snoop has been given the honour of inducting him into the Hall of Fame next month.
The ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ hitmaker will reportedly deliver a Tupac tribute performance at the ceremony, while Dr Dre – who also collaborated with the controversial rap star – is in talks to join him on stage.
Tupac is part of the 2017 class, which also includes the likes of Pearl Jam, Yes, Journey, the Electric Light Orchestra and Joan Baez.
And Chic’s Nile Rodgers, who will be handed the Award for Musical Excellence by his ‘Get Lucky’ collaborator Pharrell.
For Nile, the prize comes after his band Chic were nominated 11 times, but never found themselves inducted, which he says is "bittersweet".
Speaking previously, he said: "It’s sort of bittersweet. I’m quite flattered that they believed that I was worthy, but my band Chic didn’t win. They plucked me out of the band and said, ‘You’re better than Chic.’ That’s wacky to me … I am flattered and I think it’s cool, but I feel like somebody put me in the lifeboat and told my family they can’t get in."
In order to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, 25 years must have passed since an artist has released their first album or single. For Pearl Jam and Tupac, 2017 marks the first year of eligibility, and makes them the first acts to be inducted into the institution who started their careers in the 1990s.
