Leigh-Anne Pinnock wants to spread a message of girl power in her solo songs.
The former Little Mix singer has so far released two singles, ‘Don’t Say Love’ and ‘My Love’, since the group went on hiatus in 2022.
Leigh-Anne is proud that her former band – which was also comprised of Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall and originally Jesy Nelson – inspired so many young girls and teenagers, just like the Spice Girls did before them, and she wants to continue to inspire with her own music.
Speaking to Quem magazine, she said: “If I’m not inspiring people, I don’t feel like I’m fulfilling my role, you know? It’s something I naturally want to do: empower women, girls and anyone.
“This has always been a very strong and important message that we wanted to spread as Little Mix. These are things that I take with me as a solo artist.”
The 32-year-old pop star admits it has taken a while to get used to flying solo without the support of the girls but she feels as though she is growing as an artist.
She said: “I’m loving every moment of this unique experience of being on my own. Each performance gives me a feeling of improvement, as if I am adapting more and more to who I am. My confidence grows with each show, but I also recognise the importance of being patient as I navigate the unfamiliar terrain of being a new artist. I am genuinely proud of what I have achieved.
“Every challenge I overcome strengthens my resilience, moulding me into a more robust version of myself. Leaving behind something so familiar is not easy, but I’m demonstrating, to myself and to the world, that I am strong.”
The ‘Touch’ hitmaker may not yet have released her debut solo album but she is already making plans to start work on her next record.
But Leigh-Anne has promised her fans that her debut solo LP will be out in 2024.
She said: “I’ll be back in the studio at the end of the year, which is exciting. There will be more songs and, for sure, an album in 2024. I’m always thinking about creating more, exploring different aspects of myself.”
