Laura Norton has found it "extremely hard" to play out Emmerdale’s factory fire storyline.
The 36-year-old actress’ character Kerry Wyatt has been covering up for herself and daughter Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson) after they were responsible for the blaze at the Sharmas’ factory, which led to the death of Frank Clayton (Michael Praed), but Laura admits playing a deceitful Kerry has had its challenges.
She said: "I’ve found this one of the hardest things to play since I’ve been here.
"It’s really hard to play the guilt without being really on the nose. I’ve had chats with directors about when you’re lying, if someone in real life tends to lie or fib they do it convincingly so people don’t know.
"But at the same time you’re trying to show an audience you’re living with guilt, that you don’t feel good, that you’re not finding it easy lying.
"But in real life that’s not what you would show, so I’ve found it extremely hard to play."
Despite finding it tough, Laura – who has portrayed Kerry on the ITV soap since 2012 – has put in the effort to play out the story realistically, and is enjoying the challenge.
She added: "As an actress I’m loving doing something really gritty.
"I’ve done a lot of extra homework trying to find the nuances.
"As a challenge that’s amazing, because what other job would you get to do such a vary of emotions.
"It’s been amazing but I’ve found it really hard."
