Laura Norton’s Big Little Lies inspiration

Laura Norton watched ‘Big Little Lies’ for inspiration about her latest ‘Emmerdale’ storyline.
The 36-year-old actress’ character Kerry Wyatt and her daughter Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson) were recently responsible for the factory fire which led the death of Frank Clayton (Michael Praed), and while Amy has been struggling with the guilt, her mother has framed Frank.
And Laura has been getting some tips from the HBO drama about playing a deceitful character.
She said: "I watched ‘Big Little Lies’. It’s basically about this group of women who are living with a lie, and the guilt, somebody dying, and they were all collectively responsible but one person really was.
"It was amazing watching all the different angles of how these women were playing what they were going through.
"You do have to get on with life, especially when you’ve got children. You do have moments where you forget and then you have to remember again because it’s so bloody huge."
Laura is pleased the plot has received a "big reaction" from numerous people who are not happy about Kerry trying to avoid any blame, and the actress insists her alter-ego is "flawed", but for "the right reasons".
She added: "This has been huge. People haven’t been on board with her decision-making, and quite rightly so.
"It’s my job to try to do the writing the justice it deserves, because these are stories that do happen. People do make these decisions.
"You’re representing real people, so it’s about trying to find as much truth as humanly possibly.
"And hoping that people can see she’s flawed but doing things for the right reasons, however warped that may be.
"It’s nice to see it getting a big reaction, because that’s what we wanted."
