Laura Carmichael: Downton Abbey costumes more risque next series

Laura Carmichael says her ‘Downton Abbey’ costumes are much more risqué this series.

The 28-year-old beauty, who stars as Lady Edith Crawley in the popular drama, has revealed viewers will be seeing a bit more of her figure in the fifth series as the costumes have been updated.

Quizzed on what the best thing about playing her character is, she said: "She has amazing storylines, like the adoption one that continues this series. Her outfits are more glamorous and risqué now. You can see calf!"

The ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’ actress also spoke about her relationship with her on-screen sister Lady Mary Crawley, played by Michelle Dockery, and hinted that certain revelations could see them put their differences aside.

When asked how relations are between Edith and Mary in the new series, Laura explained to Now magazine: "Still a little catty. Mary obviously doesn’t know Edith has gone through this whole pregnancy, so she thinks the reason she’s sad is because Michael Gregson [Charles Edwards], her lover, went missing. She’s like, ‘My husband’s dead. Get over it.’"
