Lana Del Rey retires Harvey Weinstein-inspired track

Lana Del Rey will no longer play ‘Cola’ live out of respect to those who have accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment.
The 32-year-old musician was inspired by a "Harvey Weinstein type of character" when she wrote the 2015 song, but has said that after the disgraced movie producer was accused of sexually harassing a number of women over a 30-year period, she will be retiring the track, as she finds the situation "sad".
Speaking to MTV News, Lana said: "When I wrote that song, I suppose I had a Harvey Weinstein/Harry Winston-type of character in mind. I envisioned, like, a benevolent, diamond-bestowing-upon-starlets visual, like a ‘Citizen Kane’ or something. I’m not really sure. I thought it was funny at the time, and I obviously find it really sad now. I support the women who have come forward. I think they’re really brave for doing that."
And the ‘Born To Die’ hitmaker thinks pulling the song from her setlist is the "right thing" to do given the alleged offences surrounding the ‘Pulp Fiction’ producer.
Asked if she was going to retire the track, Lana added: "Definitely. That would be the only right thing to do."
Lana’s decision comes after stars including Cara Delevingne, Rose McGowan, Ashley Judd, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Beckinsale recently came forward to open up about their own experiences with Weinstein.
And the sexual misconduct allegations made against the 65-year-old producer have also encouraged Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern and Blake Lively to open up about being sexually harassed by other figures in the business.
Harvey – who has denied many of the allegations made against him – has since been sacked from his position as co-chairman of the The Weinstein Company, and his wife of 10 years, fashion designer Georgina Chapman, has left him.
