Lady Kitty Spencer found the attention she received after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding “very weird”.
The 30-year-old beauty – who is Prince Harry’s cousin – was stunned when her Instagram following went from 37,000 to half a million overnight after she was thrust into the spotlight as a guest at her royal relative’s wedding in May 2018, and was convinced she must have accidentally picked up someone else’s phone.
She told the new issue of Town & Country magazine: “I woke up the next day and looked at my phone and thought, ‘Whoops, did I take someone else’s by mistake?’
“It was very weird, and a little bit overwhelming.”
Despite her newfound popularity, Kitty insisted she’ll be staying private about her personal life, including her engagement to 62-year-old millionaire Michael Lewis, because she wants to “protect” the people she loves.
She said: “It’s not that I don’t place an importance on love. It’s because, for me, love is the most important thing in the world, and I will protect it with all my heart by not making it a topic of discussion. You open yourself up to other people having opinions, and it just isn’t relevant to anybody’s life but mine and my family’s.”
However, Kitty – who is the daughter of the late Princess Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, and his ex-wife Victoria Aitken – is looking forward to settling down into a “really happy” home life.
She added: “I just look forward to a really happy home life: a happy marriage and happy children. And I feel very at peace that things play out the way they should.”
While the blonde beauty is the eldest of Earl Spencer’s children, her 27-year-old brother Louis, Viscount Althorp, will inherit the family estate of Althorp in Northamptonshire.
But Kitty insisted she and her 28-year-old twin sisters, Lady Eliza and Lady Amelia – aren’t upset about it.
She said: “Primogeniture can be a tricky topic, because as times are changing, attitudes are as well. We’ve grown up understanding that it’s Louis to inherit, and Louis will do an incredible job.”
