Kym Marsh would feel ‘nervous’ sending daughter back to school before summer

Kym Marsh would feel "nervous" sending her daughter to school if they reopen before the summer holidays.
Schools across the country have closed due to the current coronavirus lockdown, and there was some speculation last week that they might reopen before the summer holidays, but the former ‘Coronation Street’ actress has questioned whether that would be the "safe thing to do".
She said: "It was revealed last week that teachers are demanding clarity from the government over claims that schools could reopen before the summer holidays, and not in September like originally thought.
"As a parent, the idea of sending my daughter Polly back to school so soon makes makes me nervous.
"Is that the safe thing to do? Won’t it potentially put children and staff at risk?
"And parents, as we have to drop them off and pick them up?"
On Sunday (19.04.20), education secretary Gavin Williamson responded to speculation that schools could reopen before September, admitting he wasn’t able to give a date when they may be open again.
He said: "Of course, I want nothing more than to see schools back, get them back to normal, make sure the children are sat around learning, and experiencing the joy of being at school.
"But I can’t give you a date. Because before we do, we need to meet five tests."
Kym would rather nine-year-old Polly – who she shares with her ex, ‘Hollyoaks’ actor Jamie Lomas – stayed at home and "remained safe".
Writing in her OK! magazine column, she added: "I understand that Polly can’t get the same quality of education at home that she can at school, but I’d rather she missed out on education temporarily and remained safe and well.
"I know they say children aren’t as high risk as adults, but children have still died from the virus."
