Kym Marsh: Simon Gregson is ‘hysterical’ on set

Kym Marsh finds it "hard" working alongside Simon Gregson – because he’s "so hysterical".
The ‘Coronation Street’ actress – who plays Michelle Connor on the ITV soap – admits her co-star (Steve McDonald) cracks her up so much he must have been born with "funny bones", which makes it "very difficult" not to laugh while the pair are shooting scenes together.
Speaking about Simon’s Inside Soap Awards success last week, she said: "Simon Gregson won Funniest Male and no wonder – he’s got funny bones, that one.
"I sometimes find it hard working with him because she’s so hysterical.
"Simon plays Steve McDonald, who is the great comedic character, and my character Michelle Connor is the straight man. It’s very difficult to keep a straight face."
‘Corrie’ won big at the ceremony last Monday (22.10.18), scooping Best Soap, and Jack P. Shepherd (David) won the Best Actor accolade, and Kym admits her co-stars are "so proud" of the 30-year-old star.
She said: "It was very well deserved. He was a little boy when he joined the show in 2000, and now he’s grown – not just as an actor, but as a person.
"We’re all so proud."
As well as Simon’s comedy success, Dolly-Rose Campbell won Funniest Female at the Soap Awards, and Kym is pleased the show is being recognised for its comical moments as well as dramatic storylines.
Writing in her OK! magazine column, she added: "It is great that we’re winning all the comedy awards alongside doing very serious storylines."
This comes after ‘Corrie’ came under fire from several celebs earlier this year for being too violent, with Paul O’Grady comparing the soap to war-torn Syria.
He said: "It was about working class life in a little street, but now it’s like Syria.
"There used to be these wonderful vignettes in the Rovers – a conversation over nothing."
Some of this year’s ‘Corrie’ storylines have seen evil serial killer Pat Phelan’s (Connor McIntyre) reign of terror finally come to an end, and David was raped by Josh Tucker (Ryan Clayton).
