Kym Marsh has signed a new one-year ‘Coronation Street’ contract.
The 41-year-old actress – who joined the ITV soap in 2006 – has put pen to paper on a deal which will see her play her character Michelle Connor for at least another 12 months, and she is delighted about remaining on the show.
She wrote in her OK! magazine column: "I’m also really pleased to announce I’ve signed to ‘Corrie’ for another year.
"It’s great to know that I’ll be there for another 12 months doing what I love and being with my friends."
Kym’s ‘Corrie’ confirmation comes following speculation evil Weatherfield serial killer Pat Phelan – portrayed by Connor McIntyre – will shoot Michelle on her wedding day.
But it looks as though the Bistro worker will survive the horrific incident when the calculated murderer returns to the cobbles to try to wreak revenge next week.
A source recently said: "The scenes were shot last week and are more like a horror film than a soap.
"Phelan will come back to Weatherfield and crash Michelle and Robert’s wedding day. In all the carnage, she will end up being shot with Robert trying desperately to save her life before she bleeds out.
"Inevitably, the other guests will be involved in the madness too in the aftermath of him shooting her."
While Phelan looks set to get his comeuppance in forthcoming scenes, Kym recently admitted she would like her alter-ego to take over from the evil character and become the next ‘Corrie’ psycho.
She said: "I’d actually like more psychopath stuff. I’d like my character to be one.
"It would be great being a baddie. Anyway, who wants a happy ending on soaps?"
