Kirsty Wark squanders her salary on bottles of designer perfume.
The 63-year-old television presenter is paid an eye-watering £200,000 a year by the BBC to front ‘Newsnight’ but she has admitted the Chanel No 19., which comes in at around £100 for a 7.5ml bottle, makes a huge dent in her bank balance because she’s obsessed with the scent and scared it’ll be discontinued.
Taking to her social networking sites, Kirsty uploaded a photo of her bathroom cabinet at her home in Glasgow, Scotland, filled to the brim with the scent.
According to the Daily Mail newspaper, Kirsty – who has since deleted the picture – captioned it: "Been wearing 19 for more than 30 years, but stockpiling just in case the range is further depleted.
"Whenever I go abroad I find myself scouring the duty-free so I can bulk-buy it."
And, although she thoroughly enjoys her work, Kirsty recently suggested that Britain should have a four-day week because it would increase productivity.
She told the Guardian newspaper this year: "I don’t think people should live for the moment, we need to live for the future. We have the lowest productivity in Europe and yet we work long hours; we should work a four-day week and on the other day learn another skill, do yoga, get fit, or look after a relative. I think it takes a radical shift to change our living for the weekend culture."
However, she appreciates that it’s hard enough for young people to find a career that will last them a lifetime these days because there aren’t the jobs around.
She explained: "We should try and teach our daughters that they can do whatever they want.
"Though it’s very difficult for kids these days to figure out what they’re going to do. There will be no jobs for life and so they will need to develop resilience."
