Kieron Richardson’s twins will stay in touch with their surrogate.
The ‘Hollyoaks’ actor and his husband Carl Hyland welcomed twins Phoebe and Chase into the world in May and they have vowed to be "open and honest" with the tots about the fact they were carried by a woman outside of their family unit.
Asked if the twins will know her identity, Kieron said: "Yes. We took our surrogate’s lead because she has done it before. She sees those babies once a year close to their birthdays, so we’ll probably do the same. We’re going to be so open and honest with them from the beginning. They need to know how they got here."
Though the couple know the twins’ biological paternity, it isn’t something they want to share with other people.
Kieron said: "That is the most asked question but we feel we are just a family unit, two dads and two babies, and as it’s not important to us, it shouldn’t be to anyone else."
Though the couple love being parents, they admit being two dads has brought its challenges when out in public.
Kieron said: "This is nothing to do with same-sex parents but for dads in general, we’ve been to paces where the changing facilities were only in the ladies’ toilets and they get a bit freaked out about what to do in that situation.
"But if it’s any dad out with their baby, the baby is still going to need changing at some point."
The ‘Raised by Queers’ stars are very keen to have more children in the future.
Carl said: "I don’t think you could ever put a stop button on it for me. The amount of love I Feel for these kids is just crazy, so to have that again is just a blessing."
Kieron added to OK! magazine: "It’s so easy to be like, ‘I want a football team, but because of the process we went through, the reality is not easy. We’re lucky to have the two we’ve got now, but we’d definitely like to have at least one more baby."
