Katie Price believes marriage is for life.
The 38-year-old former glamour model – who is married to Kieran Hayler and was previously wed to Peter Andre and Alex Reid – was stunned to learn a high percentage of people support the idea of a two-year contract, where they can decide whether or not to stay with their spouse because she is an "old romantic" who never planned to get divorced.
She said: "Two of the people I was with I got married one was in five weeks, the other was six months. I’m still with the one five weeks, the six months one I didn’t even get to two years.
"But I’m an old romantic. When you marry someone it’s for life. You plan to be with them for life, you don’t plan to divorce. I know I did but I had my reasons.
"So many people are commitment-phobic, there would probably be more marriages if you did have [a two-year lease].
"But for me the thought of walking down the aisle, being with that person for life – that is just the fairytale for me."
Despite believing in marrying for life, Katie admits she had reservations about being wed to Alex – who she split from in January 2011 less than a year after they tied the knot – but still "went for it".
Speaking on UK TV show ‘Loose Women’, she said: "I did think ‘What am I doing?’ but I just went for it."
Katie – who has son Harvey, 13, from a relationship with footballer Dwight Yorke, Junior, 11, and Princess, nine, with Peter and Jett, two, and Bunny, 23 months, with Kieran – insisted it is important to make an effort within a marriage.
She said: "I think when you’re with a person you grow with them. Of course you’re more relaxed, it’s not a bad thing. But, I still make an effort – try and keep them on their toes."
And though she disapproves of the idea of a two-year marriage contract, she can see financial benefits.
She added: "If you’ve got a get out clause you haven’t got to go down the divorce thing, and then lawyers would be out of a job."
