Katie McGlynn was "so nervous" at her first audition since leaving ‘Coronation Street’.
The 26-year-old actress – who exited the ITV soap after her character Sinead Tinker tragically lost her battle with cervical cancer – has been trying out for new roles and admits she was worried about stepping back into the audition room again.
Speaking about her future career prospects, she said: "It’s been non-stop to be honest. I’m planning to go to Hollywood but there’s nothing set in stone yet. I’ve auditioned for a cool series, but we’ll have to see. The first audition I had, I was so nervous. When you play a character for seven years and then put yourself in front of brand new judges, it’s like being a fish out of water. Everything’s changed quite a bit since I used to audition, but you’ve just got to get back on the horse. My heart does lie with drama but I’ve always had comedy in my bones so I’d love to get back into that."
Katie is up for Best Serial Drama Performance at the National Television Awards later this month, nominated alongside Danny Dyer (Mick Carter, ‘EastEnders’), Danny Miller (Aaron Dingle, ‘Emmerdale’) and Gregory Finnegan (James Nightingale, ‘Hollyoaks’, and the actress admits she is just "shocked" to be nominated at all and will be celebrating with a "big glass of champagne" if she takes home the prize.
She told new! magazine: "I’m shocked! My main concern was not to offend anyone going through cervical cancer, so the fact people picked up the phone to vote for me is such a nice feeling and means so much to me. [If I win], I’ll be having a big glass of champagne and a boogie on the dance floor. But even if I don’t, I feel like I’ve already won."
