Kathy Burke blames nuns for swearing habit

Kathy Burke blames her swearing on the nuns from her convent school.
The 55-year-old comedian claimed she took some inspiration for playing foul-mouthed characters in shows such as ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme’ and ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ from the nuns at the Maria Fidelis Roman Catholic Convent School in North London, which she attended in her teens.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Saturday Live’ show, Kathy explained: "I remember the nuns used to swear quite a lot, so I think maybe it’s picking it up from them. I was called all sorts, mate, I tell you."
Kathy also revealed she enjoys ranting on social media and loves when her followers tell her off for using bad language, as it reminds her of her dad.
She said: "I came on to Twitter in my 50s and I sort of think that was perfect. I am just a ranting old lady really and I like it. If I get angry about stuff – I have to say I can use quite fruity language at times which isn’t to everyone’s taste.
"I am always being told off for using bad language but it’s sort of lovely really, because it makes me think of my lovely dad who was constantly shouting at me for bad language."
Meanwhile, Kathy previously revealed she deeply regrets booze binges from her youth.
The comedian is now suffering health problems due to her consumption of alcohol in her twenties and she wishes she had never started drinking.
She said: "If I could speak to my younger self, I’d tell her, ‘Don’t think you need to get p***ed to be funny or to have a personality’. It f***ed up my early twenties. My life only got complicated once booze got involved.
"I’ve now got Addison’s disease. I caught a bug which killed my adrenal glands, so I nearly died about four times."
