Katharine McPhee has dedicated her Broadway return to her late father.
The 34-year-old actress – whose dad Daniel passed away less than two weeks ago – took to her Twitter account on Tuesday (24.07.18) shortly before she took to the stage in New York, where she’s been starring as Jenna in the musical ‘Waitress’, to dedicate her performance to him.
Katharine took a photo of herself backstage and captioned it: "dad, this one’s for you. [angel emoji] here we go @WaitressMusical #GiveEmHellKid (sic)"
Katharine recently said she hopes her dad is still able to watch her perform from the comfort of heaven.
In a lengthy post on her Instagram account, the actress shared: "I can’t believe I’m even writing this….
"But it is with heavy heart that I share that my sweet sweet Papa left this earth yesterday morning. We as a family are completely heartbroken and devastated. He was my biggest fan, my biggest champion, always telling me to "Give em hell kid!" He was so kind and caring and made sure we knew how much he loved us. Not sure my heart will ever be the same. I’m so sad he missed my broadway debut. But when I return to the stage next week I hope he can watch it in peace and from up above. Thank you to all my friends who’ve been so loving and supportive these last 48 hours. I love you Papa. I already miss you so much. This hurts. [broken heart emoji] (sic)"
Prior to announcing her dad’s death, Katharine revealed on Twitter that she was having to take a break from ‘Waitress’ in order to deal with a "family emergency".
The American star – who is engaged to musician David Foster – wrote: "Hey my Waitress fans… I’m so so sorry to inform you I will be out this weekend from the shows. I’m having to fly back to LA right now for a family emergency. It breaks my heart to disappoint anyone. Sending all my love. (sic)"
