Kate Winslet is in talks to star in ‘The Mountain Between Us’ opposite Idris Elba.
The ‘Steve Jobs’ actress is wanted for the female role in the drama which has already cast the ‘The Jungle Book’ star as the male lead.
‘The Mountain Between Us’ has been adapted from Charles Martin’s eponymous novel, which follows the story of two strangers who survive a chartered plane crash in the Colorado woods and must brave the elements together.
The title is being directed by Hany Abu-Assad-directed and Elba will portray Ben Trace, a climbing fanatic who helps female survivor, writer Ashley Knox, who Winslet is being tipped to play.
Although both are badly injured in the crash, the pair – who are also joined by the pilot’s dog – regain their health, fall in love and then make a bid for survival by climbing down the mountain on which they landed.
The project has faced difficulty securing a cast after Michael Fassbender and Charlie Hunnam passed up the male lead, while Margot Robbie and Rosamund Pike were approached to play Ashley but declined.
Meanwhile, Winslet, 40, has signed up to star in Will Smith’s New Line production ‘Collateral Beauty’ and Elba, 43, will be seen next in ‘Star Trek Beyond’ in which he stars as Krall and is also set to return to the Marvel Universe as Heimdal in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ in 2017.
