Kate Hudson says Hollywood "tears you down".
The ‘Bride Wars’ star feels there is a really difficult side to the film industry but is glad she has her mother, Goldie Hawn, who has experienced it already, to go to for advice.
Speaking at the 2016 Forbes Women’s Summit at Pier Sixty in New York, she said: "In Hollywood, everyone wants to build you up and tear you down.
"My mother had a driver who came to the house [to take her to work] and I hated it. He would take my mother away. But what it taught me was how hard she worked to create opportunities for other women. She was a trailblazer in Hollywood."
Meanwhile, the 37-year-old actress – who has Ryder, 12, with her ex-husband Chris Robinson and Bingham, four, with her former fiancé Matt Bellamy – previously praised her mother Goldie and stepfather Kurt Russell for their parenting style, insisting they never put any pressure on her or her siblings.
She shared: "What makes mom the best is that she never put any expectations too high on the kids. She just wanted us to be doing the things that made us happy, as long as we were working hard, but we never had to live up to something.
"It’s not really advice so much as she’s my confidante and we talk about our life and her life, and we support each other now that I’m an adult. Where she’s really wonderful is leading an authentic life and a truthful life."
And Kate believes her positive outlook on life comes from her mother’s easygoing attitude.
She said: "I am who I am because of my mom, who, above anything else, loves to laugh. I inherited that from her – I love to laugh. She is a big believer in never taking anything too seriously and I like to think I am the same."
