Kate Garraway thought she had meningitis

Kate Garraway thought she had meningitis.
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter returned to the breakfast show this morning (04.10.18) following two weeks off sick after she fell ill while backstage last month and had to be rushed to hospital with a temperature of "40" and a piercing headache.
Recalling her health scare, she said: "I came in Friday before last and I couldn’t look at the lights and I had a temperature over 40. I said: ‘I’ll be fine’ but the director said, ‘Even you can’t make this funny, Kate, there is no way you can do the show, we can’t turn the lights off.’ Actually I went straight to the hospital. They were thinking meningitis, fortunately it wasn’t, and they sorted me out and I was fine.
"Can I just say the Whittington Hospital [in north London], can I tell you how brilliant they were, they saw me straight away and got me on a drip."
Kate was supposed to be hosting The North London Health Star Awards at the same hospital that night and the doctors joked that they could "wheel" her from the ward.
She explained: "But then he looked at my notes and said, ‘No you are way too ill.’ "
Although they were initially concerned that the 51-year-old star had contracted meningitis – an infection of the protective membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord that can lead to death if left untreated – it transpired she had a bug.
This isn’t the first health scare Kate has had recently, as back in August she was rushed to hospital, had her phone stolen and her car towed – all in one week.
She said at the time: "The week’s been a bit of a mess. On the way back from holiday my phone was stolen at the airport. And you know what it’s like when you’re entire life is on your phone? By the way, Mum, I am back. I still haven’t got hold of my mum. Also, I was a bit poorly, ended up having to go to the hospital this week. Was in longer than I thought. I thought it was going to be a quick thing. I came out, knew it was going to be a ticket in the car park on my car. Towed away!
"Towed away and because I was in a bit of a state, I was walking around thinking, ‘Did I leave it there?’ So I lost my car, a phone, and my health."
