Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway tried to set up her co-host Alex Beresford with Amy Hart live on air.
The 39-year-old weatherman – who stepped in for Adil Ray – made his debut as a presenter on the ITV breakfast show on Thursday (20.08.20), but he was taken by surprise when his 53-year-old co-host attempted to play matchmaker on the show.
After quizzing him on his current relationship status, Kate revealed the ‘Love Island’ star has a huge crush on the ITV hunk.
She said: "You’re already very popular, Alex – and Amy Hart, absolutely gorgeous girl, came forward to say you are her favourite crush."
Alex replied: "Apparently she followed me on Instagram a few days ago and she’s upset that I didn’t follow her back, so maybe I’ll go on Instagram right now…"
Kate gushed: "So Amy, if you’re watching, he’s going to get in touch – that’s exciting!"
However, Alex corrected Kate whilst accidentally making a rude joke.
He said: "Am I? I said that I was going to follow her, I didn’t say I was going to slide in, Kate!"
Kate clarified: "You weren’t going to slide into the DMs?"
Alex quickly apologised to viewers at home for his slip up, and Kate continued: "Oh hello – it’s all getting very exciting, I’m getting all hot and bothered!"
What’s more, Alex was unable to get much sleep the night before his ‘GMB’ presenting debut.
He spent the night in a hotel room, only to be woken up at 1am to a couple arguing about their careers.
Introducing the show, Kate said: "Welcome to the programme, and how exciting is this, welcome to Alex Beresford!
"Did you get any sleep last night, because it’s a bit nerve-wracking?"
Alex recalled: "So I checked into the hotel yesterday, all was fine, and then at about one-o’clock this morning, a couple next door decided to have a row about whose career was more important.
"And I wanted to knock on the door and say, ‘Actually I’ve got a pretty big job tomorrow myself!’ "
Kate quipped: "Well we won’t say where it is, but if you had an argument in a hotel last night about whose career is more important, you potentially devastated Alex Beresford’s big moment."
