Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper is "fighting so hard" in his battle against coronavirus.
The 53-year-old TV presenter has revealed via Instagram that Derek – who has been receiving treatment in intensive care – "is still with us", while she’s also thanked NHS staff for their efforts during the pandemic.
Kate – who joined in the latest Clap for Carers tribute on Thursday (07.05.20) – wrote: "Derek is still with us, fighting so hard to beat this virus & everyday I am awestruck by how hard every member of the nhs team is fighting to turn things around & bring him ( & so many others) home to their loved ones.
"You are amazing – thank you thank you Sending love to you all in these terrible times #staypositive #hope #standtogether. (sic)"
Earlier this week, Ben Shephard, Kate’s ‘Good Morning Britain’ co-host, revealed she’s been calling her husband "every night" since he went into hospital.
Ben admitted Kate finds "comfort" in her daily call, even though she doesn’t know if he can hear her.
The presenter said of Kate’s situation: "Staff are taking a phone in the evenings and she can talk to her husband.
"She has no idea if he is responding, but she hopes that he is.
"It’s a source of comfort."
Meanwhile, Kate – who has Darcey, 14, and William, 11, with Derek – had to celebrate her 53rd birthday in isolation and without her husband for the first time in 16 years over the weekend.
She wrote on Instagram: "So yesterday was always going to be a tough one – 1st birthday in 16 years without Derek – so for the kids & I, his abscence was very present. But am very well aware could be worse – he is still here. So we resolved to do what I think we are all having to do at the moment aren’t we – treasure & be grateful for the love around us – however distanced we are from it . (sic)"
