Kate Ford and Melanie Hill have fired back at former ‘Coronation Street’ writer Daran Little after he revealed he spent train journeys plotting what characters to kill off.
The 53-year-old writer – who penned a number of episodes of the ITV soap until 2010 and now works on BBC One’s ‘EastEnders’ – came under fire from some of the soap’s stars for his "flippant" comments.
He tweeted: "Things soap writers do on boring train journeys … No.1 make a list of all the people you’ve killed off. No.2 make a list of all the people you want to kill off. No.3 make a list of all the people you wished you had killed off … Chatted to an actor once, said I’d forgotten how he’d left a particular show. His grim reply: ‘You killed me off’. Oh yes … (sic)"
And Melanie – who plays Cathy Matthews – was quick to reply to Daran’s comments.
In a now deleted tweet, she wrote: "As an actor in a soap, I am quite shocked by this flippant / arrogant and quite frankly upsetting comment. Who the actual f*** made you God? We are all trying to do our jobs day after day. Granted, yes our lives are in your hands. But do you have to be so f***ing mean-spirited? (sic)"
Whilst Kate – who plays Tracy Barlow – added in her own message: "Why are you tweeting this stuff Darren??? This is people’s careers. (sic)"
Vicky Entwistle – who plays Janice Battersby – warned: "Be careful!!! Karma is her own mistress!!! Keep looking over your shoulder!! (sic)"
Daran later took to social media to clarify his comments.
He wrote: "The actor in question had asked to leave. Sorry for offending anyone. Guess I shouldn’t tweet when jet lagged and on meds. (sic)"
