Kasabian’s Tom Meighan unsure about future of rock music

Kasabian think rock bands could disappear because new acts don’t work hard enough.

The band’s frontman Tom Meighan made the comments at the launch of the NME Awards 2015 last night (05.11.14), adding that he believes his band is responsible for ensuring youngsters are into performing music.

The 33-year-old ‘eez-eh’ singer said: "We’re a band that are getting kids back into playing guitars.

"I love what Johnny Marr said — you want to be 18 and f**king fearless. That’s what we were. We were 18 when we started. We were fearless."

Despite praising his band – which headlined Glastonbury earlier this year – he criticised other musicians for not being proactive enough in achieving their dreams.

He explained to the Evening Standard newspaper: "I think in rock ‘n’ roll there will always be a band that breaks through.

"Bands form now, put some music out and expect it to happen. We got on a tour bus and just toured. We were kids. But look where we are now."

The multi-NME Award winners performed at the event in exclusive London venue Under The Bridge to declare voting open.

The public are now able to choose who they’d like to win each of the many titles, including Best British Band and Best Solo Artist.

Other guests in attendance included ‘Boom Clap’ hitmaker Charli XCX and indie rockers Peace.

The NME Awards 2015 in association with Austin, Texas, will take place at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on February 18 2015.
